Today (9 August 2023), I had the privilege of returning to CERN (European Organisation for Nuclear Research, situated between Switzerland and France) after 30 years. Walking through the corridors where groundbreaking science unfolds, I was transported back to my student days at the University of Geneva. I was flooded with memories of my favourite teacher, Paolo Zanella, a pioneer in particle physics computing, who ignited my passion for science.
Paolo Zanella was my computer science teacher at the University of Geneva, and before that, he was heading the Data Handling Division at CERN. He was instrumental in developing the first computer systems used for particle physics research at CERN. Professor Zanella passed away in 2014. His expertise and leadership at CERN and the University of Geneva have left a lasting legacy, and his work will undoubtedly continue to influence the field for years to come.
CERN is also famous for the birth of the World Wide Web (WWW). Sir Tim Berners-Lee, a British scientist at CERN, proposed the idea in 1989. He and his team created the first website and web browser, laying the foundation for the Internet as we know it today.
Today, this place, where I once explored the unknown as a student, continues to inspire and innovate. Standing before the Large Hadron Collider, I was reminded of the relentless pursuit of knowledge and the power of human curiosity.
Reflecting on the journey that brought me here, I'm grateful for the mentors who shaped me and the advancements in science that continue to amaze us all. Here's to the past that guided us, the present that engages us, and the future that awaits us.
Standing before the sign of Switzerland's École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), one of the world's top-ranked universities, I'm filled with nostalgia and pride. Here, I completed my foundational CMS (Cours Mathématiques Spéciales) year, a milestone that laid the groundwork for my computer science studies at the University of Ge

Today (10 August 2023), as I share this part of my educational journey with my children, I'm reminded of the pursuit of excellence, hard work, and curiosity that guided me here.
With the visit to EPFL, European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), and Geneva University, the 3 institutions that transformed my life through the hardship of my educational journey, I've concluded a summer holiday rich in memories, dedicated to helping my children understand their dad's educational legacy.
To lifelong learning and the paths that shape us!
