7 key factors that make Bangladesh the country with the fastest
Economic growth ever (opinion is mine):
1. Garments Industry: Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garments (RMG) industry is the largest in the world after China, contributing massively to the country’s economy. Due to its low production costs, the country has become a favoured destination for clothing retailers.
2. Agricultural Success: Bangladesh is self-sufficient in food grain production. It’s the world’s third-largest producer of rice, a staple food in the country, and the seventh-largest producer of potatoes.
3. Remittances: Bangladeshi migrant workers abroad send back billions of dollars each year, fuelling domestic consumption and providing valuable foreign exchange.
4. Infrastructure Development: Investments in infrastructure, particularly in energy, transportation, and logistics, have improved the business environment, attracting more foreign investment.
5. Microfinance: Bangladesh is a pioneer in this sector. Microfinance institutions in Bangladesh, like Grameen Bank, BRAC, and others, have played a significant role in poverty reduction, women’s empowerment, and grass-root level development.
6. Digital Bangladesh Vision: The government’s ‘Digital Bangladesh’ initiative aims to introduce information technology at all levels, which is crucial to economic growth. E-services, e-commerce, and tech startups are rising, contributing to the country’s GDP and job creation.
7. Demographic Dividend: With a predominantly young and working-age population, Bangladesh has the potential to reap the benefits of the “demographic dividend”.
